![]() ![]() ![]() I've added extensions (from the manufacturer of the stand I put it on) several times with no ladder structural problems.Īnother issue sometimes forgotten is leveling the stand, both front to back (tree is the back, ladder is the front) and left to right. This is rare for me, but it does sometimes happen. I often will cut a branch (live branch, and I hunt private land, so this is doable for me) with a "V" and use that as a supplemental brace if I want one.ħ- If I still feel it needs to be locked down a little tighter, I'll put a 3rd strap on the foot platform. I check the ladder to see if it's bowed in either direction and adjust the brace accordingly to correct that.Ħ- I sometimes feel more than one brace is needed or desired. I don't accept it being half-way right.ĥ- Now the ropes can come off. Now it's ready to be climbed.Ĥ- I go up, secure the top platform with a ratchet, and I'm very particular about how the "V" bites into the tree. Get the ropes as tight and secure as possible.ģ- I put on a ratchet at the point where the brace hits the ladder. I also put the brace n at this point, too. I loop them through themselves on the top of the stand on each corner.Ģ- raise the stand, then cross the ropes behind the tree and tie each one to the ladder on the opposite side from the top corner where it attaches (if that makes sense). I'm sure I've done 100 ladder stand setups over the years, if not more.ġ- I tie a standing loop in one end of a sturdy rope about 20' long. Moved some a few times till we got the spot right. I've personally set I think all but 2 or 3. We have about 18-20 stands out where I hunt. If it's not in the flyers then check online. PS- I got to thinking about it and I'm pretty sure in those Sportsmens Warehouse flyers they have just those extra braces that you can buy. They are difficult to put up by yourself, but when they are cinched in, they are very sturdy. I have two of those and they are very sturdy also and they come with two braces. There is also a stand in Sportsmens Warehouse that is 21" tall. ![]() As I replace what I have, they are the ones I will buy. I feel like I could dance on them and be perfectly safe. I forget the name of it, but I have two 16' stands from Dicks that are the sturdiest stands of all the ones I have. Buy the heavier and better built ones if you really want steady and sturdy. Go to places that have them set up on display and really look them over. There are some really well built ladder stands out there. I stay away from all of those $50 - $60 ones because they are usually the flimsy ones that aren't as well made. That said, there are ladder stands and there are ladder stands. There are probably even people on here who have some extras if you'd ask around. If you want extra braces, save your old ones as you get rid of stands and use those if they are fit. That usually tightens things up quite a bit. All I've ever done is add an extra ratchet strap to the base of the seat area. ![]()
