Enable & Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP unchecked. If static IP address is used or the DHCP server does not provide NetBIOS setting enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. NetBIOS setting - Default (checked) - Use NetBIOS setting from the DHCP server. 'Append these DNS suffixes (in order)' is unchecked. DNS tab - DNS server addresses box is blank 'Append primary and connection specific DNS suffixes' is dotted and 'Append parent suffixes of the primary suffix' is ticked. Advanced TCP/IP Settings shows DHCP Enabled. The TCP/IP is set to,'Obtain an IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'. My ZyXel 7087 router shows a fixed W/LAN/WPS and DSL light, but the Internet light is continually flickering, regardless of whether the computer is on. Ipconfig reveals Connection Specific DNS suffix is missing, but the IP Address is there. It is hovering now as this thread is written. Yet my connection to the Internet is not impeded even while the little yellow ball hovers round mini monitor in the taskbar. It never does succeed unless prompted by my going into Wireless Connections and pressing 'repair'. : EnabledĬ:\Temp> netsh interface ipv4 set winsserver name="5" source="static" address="none"For awhile every now and then my computer decides it needs to 'acquire network address' on booting up. Regarding the WINS issue, here is some output, demonstrating that I do have a static configuration and that referencing by index has no effect on the issue.Ĭ:\Temp> netsh interface ipv4 show interfacesġ 50 4294967295 connected Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1ĥ 10 1500 connected Local Area Connection 4Įthernet adapter Local Area Connection 4:ĭescription. Netsh interface set interface name="4" newname="LAN" Are you saying that it is impossible to rename adapters on server core (at least via NETSH)? If so, I would think that this will greatly complicate scripting operation (never being able to depend on a consistent label like "DMZ" for multiple nodes in a farm). Regarding the renaming issue, my command from post #3 in this thread does use the index, not the name. Netsh interface ipv4 set dnsserver name="%INTERFACE%" source="static" address="192.168.235.11" Just this morning I ran the following successfully on build 5384: I'll take the name references out of my scripts as you advise, but FYI, I am able to perform NETSH operations by name on a core server. you can set a static wins server address and change it, you just can't set it to none.after setting your IP address to static, all wins servers are removed. The winsserver issue appears to be a bug, I can reproduce it on both Server and Server Core. Netsh interface ipv4 add dnsserver name="#" address=192.168.100.2 index=2 Netsh interface ipv4 add dnsserver name="#" address=192.168.100.1 index=1 To set the multiple DNS Servers, you need to include the index= parameter, for example: Ok, just wanted to verify before we banged our heads against teh wall trying to make it work when it never would. Agreed, it will make the scripts more invovled on Server Core to determine which network is which. We are trying to get some changes made to solve this, but it may not be possible. I'll have to look into that more.Ĭorrect, renaming network adapters will not work on Server Core because of the dependency issue I mentioned above. Hmm, perhaps one of our other fixes solved that and you can use the name string in the set commands now.
